Opening the 2026 Bayreuth Festival in its 150th anniversary year, this live stream presents Wagner’s Rienzi, his early grand opera and once his greatest success, at the Festspielhaus for the first time. The new production is staged by award-winning directors Alexandra Szemerédy and Magdolna Parditka, with Nathalie Stutzmann conducting an outstanding cast led by Andreas Schager in the title role, alongside Gabriela Scherer as Irene and Jennifer Holloway as Adriano. Combining monumental choruses, political spectacle and intimate tragedy, Rienzi launches this landmark Bayreuth Festival in unforgettable style. Outside Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the production is available exclusively on STAGE+.
