Barenboim-Said-Academy Berlin To Open In Autumn
Great News from IMZ Honorary Member Daniel Barenboim! In September, the Barenboim-Said-Academy in Berlin will open its doors and begin training young musicians from the Middle East, invited here on scholarships, in the spirit of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
The Barenboim-Said Akademie is an educational institution for remarkably gifted young musicians from the Middle East and Europe. Inspired by its co-founders, the conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim and the literary theorist and public intellectual Edward Said, the academy offers an integrated curriculum in music and the humanities – with Bachelor’s Degrees and Artist Diplomas. Daniel Barenboim is in charge of the academic and musical direction of the academy, that is housed in the former stage depot of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
